In 1973 my buddy Slade sent me a letter from Ushuaia, Argentina. After that, I knew that someday I would have to go to the end of the Earth as well. Slade's life changed from his travels to South America as he saw very clearly and articulated that North of the equator was the "experiment" and down where he was at the end of the Earth was the "control." The environment at this continental extreme was so pristine, so natural, so beautiful that Slade concluded that the experiment was failing and proceeded onto law school, and has been fighting the good fight ever since in Washington DC area. His nonprofit, sladechild still serves the children of the third world. David Slade is one of my heros. In any case, 35 years later, my wife and I are headed south for a quick look at Peru, Chile and Argentina. For one month we will be traveling through many incredible places and I am excited to share our sojourn with you in this blog.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step...in our case it is more like 1800 steps. A million things to do.
I swear that leaving town is the hardest part. Kind of like launching the space shuttle. Most of the fuel, energy, and resources are spent just getting off the launching pad. But I digress...
